Hannah here - Bootcamp Organiser, based in Sheffield! A few people have asked me, how did you get involved with Bootcamp?
It all started with a tweet!
Over a year ago I heard about some fab training, a week long hands on campaigning extravaganza. Everything I wished I had at the start of my campaigning career - hands on practical tools which take you through the campaigning cycle. It was Campaign Bootcamp!
Yet as with all good campaigning resources - it was a London thing. So I sent a tweet asking about the possibility of a northern version. A year or so later Bootcamp is coming to the north! There's only 1 week left to apply though - so get your application in today!
3 years ago I moved from the powerhouse and campaigning heartland London up to sunny Sheffield. I was a campaign manager at one of the big disability charities and was moving to a new role to support local campaigns at Citizen Advice Bureaux in the north. I loved the new job- taking the CAB's strong evidence base to influence decision makers locally and nationally but something was very different.
In London there are follow up trainings, peer support and knowledge sharing around campaigning going on all the time. Up here- there is lots going on - but very little is shared beyond each other's campaigns. When I heard about Campaign Bootcamp it seemed the perfect way to help us create a community of campaigners working up here and on local issues as well as bringing the training programme to a new audience.
Bringing together people in this way can ensure we are learning from each other's success and mistakes - sharing our resources, coming together and building alliances for more successful campaigns.
There's only 1 week left to apply for Bootcamp 5! The application is straightforward, and regardless of where you live in the UK, if you're eligible for a scholarship all your travel to the venue will be covered. So if you care about social change and want to learn how to campaign, what's stopping you? Apply today!
