I'm pleased to announce our new Cleaner Air Scholarship funded by the Children's Investment Fund Foundation. We are looking for campaigners fighting for cleaner air in the UK outside of London.
Applications for the last Campaign Bootcamp of 2017, Bootcamp 11, are open now; so now is your chance to apply for our life-changing training. You need to apply by 9am on Tuesday 22nd August 2017.
If you're a grassroots campaigner the scholarships can cover the full fee of coming on Bootcamp (£3500) and if you work at an NGO there are partial scholarships available to cover some of the costs of coming.
Why Cleaner Air?
Just last year, the UK government was taken to court for the second time by environmental organisation ClientEarth over its failure to meet air pollution laws. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) were found to not be moving quickly enough to deal with the illegal levels of pollution that cause tens of thousands of additional early deaths in the UK.
We want to help campaigners pushing for cleaner air now. We are offering this scholarship to activists and campaigners outside of London because air pollution kills people all over the UK but until now most of the activism has happened inside the London.
Last year we were really pleased to have Samia Dumbuya on Bootcamp 7. Samia is an environmental activist who cares deeply about cleaner air in her local area of Tower Hamlets. She sees air pollution as a social issue as well as an environmental one as working class areas are usually the ones hit hardest by poor air conditions. Since Bootcamp she has started a campaign called Our Air Our Health, a creative youth engagement group taking on air pollution in Tower Hamlets.
We want to support campaigners like Samia in their fight for cleaner air conditions in the UK through this scholarship.
If you're successful in getting a scholarship you'll get access to the full year long Campaign Bootcamp programme. It starts with a week of intensive training where you'll learn the key skills, confidence and community needed to make change. We'll cover campaign strategy, working with the media, fundraising, building websites, coding, working in coalition and much more!
After the residential is over you'll be able to attend follow up events, receive community support and get a year of mentorship, .
