We designed Bootcamp to teach you everything you need to be an awesome campaigner. Here's the syllabus.
The Organising Team
The organising team is in charge of making Bootcamp run smoothly. They review the syllabus, work with the venue, interview the Bootcampers, book the trainers and much much more. Here they are:
Casper ter Kuile is a joint Public Policy and Divinity graduate student at Harvard. He is the Co-Founder of the UK Youth Climate Coalition and has worked for Avaaz.org, Oxfam and WWF. He was named a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum in 2011, served on 350.org’s International Advisory Board and is a member of the Sandbox Network. Casper is a keen singer, loves kale and is training to become a minister for non-religious people.
Michelle joins the team after loving being a Bootcamper in March 2014. Her background is in film, with 10+ years experience working on TV commercials, films & events in the UK & around the world. It was a drive to help make positive change, coupled with caring greatly about environmental & humanitarian issues that propelled her to change careers to the NGO sector in 2011. For the past two years she has been PA to the CEO of environmental charity ClientEarth. She’s a yogini with a severe case of wanderlust, and a "professional" amateur photographer.
Genevieve is a campaigner and community organiser. Prior to joining the Bootcamp team she designed the Great Men project at The Gender Rights Equality Action Trust which aims to empower boys and men to challenge negative gender stereotypes. Prior to that she set up a community-arts based project in Cairo and was active in the student fees/occupy protests. She studied Music at Oxford University and continues to write and perform music.
Johnny is the co-founder and ED of Bootcamp. Johnny was a founding campaigner at 38 Degrees where he ran the Save our Forests campaign and the campaign to protect the NHS. After that he moved to Change.org to work with campaigns teams in 18 countries as Director of Campaign Innovation. He now splits his time between Bootcamp and SumOfUs.
Suzy is a campaigns manager for 38 Degrees and spends her spare time cycling around (read: getting lost in) London and flying kites. She got into campaigning via youth work and feminist organising, and stayed because reading the news is just infuriating if you can’t do anything about it.
Katherine is a campaigner at Change.org, the world’s largest petition platform. Change.org empowers people everywhere to start, join and win campaigns on issues they care about. Prior to joining Change.org Katherine was Media Manager for anti-poverty campaign group ONE and worked for the National AIDS Trust.
Papa is an account manager at Blue State Digital. Recently he has worked on projects for the Labour Party, Scottish Labour Party, New Economics Foundation and Royal Albert Hall. Papa works closely with the BSD tools and the technology teams.
Papa has several years experience working in online strategy, digital technology and managing social media campaigns. He also has previous experience working with the UK public sector and charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and the Homes and Communities Agency.
We're hugely grateful to the generous support of the following organisations for generously providing scholarships and seed funding:
The Greenpeace Environmental Trust haved funded a scholarship for campaigners focused on environmental issues and climate change.
We took oodles of pictures of Bootcamp. Head on over to Flickr to find them all, here are some highlights:
